What is Ethics and How do we get more people to behave ethically?
Educating people about why ethical action is important can be a game changer in many lives of many people. Our authorities have told us what to do but in many cases, they never tell us why.
Why should we practice Ethics? What is the butterfly effect?
Why shouldn't you put your hand on an open flame? It will burn your hand, it’s that simple. There is a concept called the butterfly effect. According to the concept, the gust of air generated from the wings of a butterfly located in North America can cause a monsoon in Asia. Every action has a reaction that will always sneak up behind you.
Behind the looting of the George Floyd Protest:
Let’s take a look at our current events(George Floyd Protest of Equality). During our modern day protest for peace, looters took advantage of defenseless businesses across the nation and bleed the lifeblood of America dry.
Why is this wrong?
For the looters it may bring a temporary feeling of satisfaction but for many business owners their feelings were no were near satisfactory. Those families lost their income during an already crippled economy and deadly pandemic because someone wanted a new pair of shoes.
What's the bigger picture?
The bigger picture most of those looters didn’t see is the fact that they took hard earned money out of the pockets of business owners and employees. Small businesses make up over 50% of the nation's income and employ millions of people.
Economic state of the U.S before and after George Floyd Protest:
Before George Floyd was killed there were around 40 million people out of work in the United States but now because of the unethical actions of looters millions of more people will be out of work. Those looters didn't just steal material things they stole life-works, jobs, and livelihoods.
Who else was affected by the looting?
This not only directly affects the businesses destroyed, it significantly affected the lives of those employed by those destroyed small businesses. It's easy to see how unethical action causes a negative butterfly effect and how the unethical actions of a few can overshadow the purity the protest was held in.
Why is ethics important as a business professional in 2023?
What most people don't realize is that as a business professional you're in control of way more than you notice at times. Always do the right thing or run the risk of burning down innocence lives through your immoral actions. Always take the time to determine if what your doing is ethical
